2008 Joy Softball Team

7.7.08: A huge thank you for the team showing up with enough players to play! Brandon, Zack, Mark, Sterling, Joe M., Jon, Tod, Jason H., Tray, Keith, Gary and Scott. Especially to the new guys Jason and Joe (hope to see more of you!). It was a fun night. First game at 7.30pm: Two homer night, one by Mark (very lovely slide at home!) and the other Jon (with 2 men on, nothing sarcastic to say about that!) and several other great hits. Brandon was like a one man show out in right center (face dive and all). Jason H. was able to get into the action this week! Gary pitched great. Everyone else did a fabulous job! Second game at 8.30, as Jon said we were getting in a grove and the game had to be called because of lightning. The other team was hitting all over the place with 9 runs, but we were holding our own with 6. Scott threw down the ump vest and got into the catching role and hit quite well for having to see an orthopedic surgeon from the sliding injury :-( Tod was pitching awesome. I think the other team was scared of us not the lightning ;-) Thanks for the cheerleaders! Hicks family and friend, Lori and cheerleaders (including the very little one) and the Hill family. Funniest comment (besides all of Zack aka triplezero's humor) came from a little guy related to someone on the other team... he asked me "what is the deal with the 'fro?" I didn't get it... "someone on our team has a 'fro?" he had to point him out to me! Brandon, any idea what he meant? Not sure what the "deal" is, but it made me laugh every time I thought about it. This kid needs to get out more! :-)

6.30.08: All I can say is... Yikes. Great show of players, however we were beat terribly :-( we will have to get back on track next week! Highlights of the night were Jon's 3 outs in one inning and a short run of good hitting by Sterling and...

6.20.08: The dangers of softball were felt by many on the Joy team Monday the 16th. With just enough folks to play, Al’s limp and grimace were quite noticeable after he replaced an injured Scott, while Gary’s bruises from being hit as he pitched remain to be seen. Scott is now in a sling, waiting to see an orthopedic surgeon about his shoulder and the 3 stitches under his eye should heal just fine. (Injured sliding into 2nd) Haven’t heard the actual knee report from Al yet and hope that Andrea's chest muscles are feeling better. We didn’t win the games either. Rough night playing all players through a double header. Thanks to all who came out to play. Heal fast.

6.2.08: Well, sorry to say we got beat. Had some great hitting, but some great fielding from the other team. We had some great catches by Zach and Joy (maybe Jon too it is all a big blur for some reason). Thanks cheerleader and photographer for showing up tonight! Thanks Sue! Had some other little cheerleaders too! (see gallery page) We'll get 'em next time! Get us back at .500.

5.5.08: We had a great showing of players and a few cheerleaders. However, we somehow managed to lose! 6-16. Seemed to get better as the night wore on. Jason did very well pitching the game, Scott/Ken, Jon, Joe, Sterling/Al, Tracey/Karen infield. Brandon, Keith, Mark and Todd were outfield. Gary did some umping. Two completely different games under our belt. I remember some good hits by Brandon, Jason and Scott (I am sure there were more, I will take notes next time ;-) ) and crazy base running/falling/sliding by Keith, Scott and Mark. And in case anyone was wondering... the foul ball call was correct as it stood. Come cheer us on! If nothing else... we are pretty fun (and sometimes funny) to watch.

4.21.08: Did you see "A league of their own"? Well, Al threw a long one from 3rd to 1st and Scott made up for his "almost" homerun by doing the splits to stay on the base and get the runner out at first. Brandon had a triple. Scott hit it to the fence. Joe hit awesome and made great plays at short. Gary pitched quite well. Andrea showed that going to the cages really does turn you into a hitter. Al, despite how he complained about his aches, made some amazing stops at 3rd. At 2nd Tracey was asked where she was last year (good thing right?). Outfield (Paul, Karyn, Keith, Brandon, Todd) didn't have too much action but did awesome when they had those balls go out there. Todd made an amazing catch, Brandon made a couple good stops, and I think that was the night. We are blessed with very enthusiastic players and it shows on the field! We missed our photographer and head cheerleader Sue, but the little guys and gals were there to cheer on their favorite players... and take a dive in the mud! Thanks Sierra for Ump-ing! Thanks Paul H. for keeping an eye on the "S" brothers. Don't miss the excitement... come see us in action!
